Program Vision

Program Vision Details

The aim of the program is to improve the training of the next generation of physician-leaders in primary care in India and to inspire them to develop practices that address all aspects of comprehensive primary care including promotive, preventive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative.

Problems this fellowship aims to address

  • 1.Improving clinical training for medical officers serving vulnerable communities
  • 2.Strengthening leadership capacity among medical officers to realise their full potential in their roles as leaders of the Primary Health Centres.
  • 3.Improving health outcomes in marginalised communities through strengthening the capacity of the primary health care system by addressing the problems noted above.

Strengthening the capacity of the physician leaders who are on the front lines of health care in India will ultimately lead to better outcomes for individual patients, their communities and society at large. The objective of improving the training of physician-leaders ultimately will contribute to the goal of improving health care in india, in part through direct patient care and also through a multiplier effect as the physician leaders inspire staff and colleagues to elevate their skills.

We focus on the keystone leadership of primary healthcare medical officers because they are positioned to influence systematic changes through multiple stakeholders - in health care delivery at primary health care centres through primary care teams, in advising local health governance through elected representatives and in advocate in district, state and even national levels through administrator.

The curriculum is comprehensive to cover various skills required for enabling and empowering physician to provide high quality primary care and to stimulate systematic change in health care.
